Happy Presidents Day!


Did you know that the official designation of today’s holiday is Washington’s Birthday? (Not Presidents Day.) Read a long and involved explanation here.

    My students think the Beethoven posters in my music room are George Washington. They’re typically more fascinated with the wigs than the music or the Presidency. And they ask good questions like, “Why would men with hair wear wigs? And then tie the wig back with a bow?”

    Such deep, meaningful discussions we have some days. šŸ˜‰

    Be careful about taking quotes out of context. The John Adams quote comes from a love letter he wrote to his wife. He was in Europe at the time and he was having trouble with British newspapers intercepting his letters and then publishing their contents. At a time when he desired and needed to share his job frustrations with his wife, John Adam unable to do so without fear of the news media criticizing him. A few sentences after the offending quote, John continues his thought, ā€œI think women better than men in general, and I know you can keep a secret as well as any man whatever.ā€
