I believe that when I have a clear picture of the real challenges ahead, in writing or publishing or any endeavor, I am then able to address those challenges as a problem solving opportunity. As Edison might have put it, we'll try this, and if that doesn't work, we'll try this next thing, and so on. It helps me to remove the emotional (This won't happen! I'm not meant to do xyz!) component from the mix, and I can focus on what will move a project forward.

Negative thinking? A part of realistic thinking. And as one of my characters said, “What we can do, what we have to do, when the unimaginable happens, is look hard for the truth, at the situation going forward. If we need to make course corrections, these are the
times to make them, because our brilliant Great Plan failed. Reality is the only place to live.”

Kind of an interesting twist here Rachelle, thanks! I am a positive thinker by nature, but I certainly do have my doubts and fears... which cause me to be realistic at times. Positive thinking is healthy, but when not followed by actions, it will not lead to success.
